City of Joburg responds to illegal scaffolding issue in Weltevreden Park

City of Joburg legal department in consultations regarding the scaffolding on Rugby and Cornelius Street

The City of Joburg’s legal department started consultations with lawyers on 12 and 13 April regarding the scaffolding that has been erected on the corner of Rugby and Cornelius Streets in Weltevreden Park. A billboard was put up on the scaffolding, and CoJ officials established that the sign was put up illegally.

According to communications liaison for the City of Joburg, Poppy Louw, “At the moment, affidavits are to be deposed so that the matter is lodged for hearing as soon as possible. The purpose is to interdict the media owner from continuing to operate the sign on site, unless full approval is granted by the City’s Outdoor Advertising Unit.”

Ward 126 councillor David Brand brought the structure to the attention of the Outdoor Advertising Unit after he was alerted about the billboard by a resident. He said that a CoJ official along with a JMPD officer concluded that the advertisement had been put up illegally.
