Roodepoort SAPS and security companies send message to weekend criminals

Colonel Lukas Nkosi leads the convoy in a warning to wrongdoers

Just as office workers begins to itch for the weekend, one wonders if criminal impulses surge toward the end of the week.

If so, a large convoy of flashing blue South African Police Service lights followed by several of the area’s no-nonsense security companies should be enough to subdue any cravings of the would-be thief. Roodepoort Police and their private sector counterparts toured the various policing sectors on Friday morning, 16 April, sending a message of confidence to the community.

“The purpose was to raise awareness through engagement with the community. Emphasis was placed on safety tips in shopping centres, such as not keeping your valuables where they are visible, making sure your vehicle is locked and secured, being aware at ATMs, as well as wearing masks and sanitizing regularly,” said Roodepoort Police spokesperson, Captain Juanita Yorke.

The visibility patrol focused on areas within the sectors that are statistical hotspots for crimes such as house robberies, business robberies and vehicle thefts. Members of the community can play their part by reporting any suspicious illegal activities to the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or by downloading the MySAPS app on their cellphones.
