Horison Blockwatch burns some meat with the community

Neighbourhood watchdogs are not just vigilant community protectors but everyday people who enjoy burnt meat and a good chinwag.

Horison Blockwatch (HBW) patrollers held a visibility and awareness gathering on the corner of Mouton Road and Judd Streets on 13 March. Comradery and good company were the order of the evening as patrollers, along with their supportive friends and families, enjoyed a few cold drinks and boerie rolls in the streetlight-lit open field. Their efforts would not go unnoticed as passing motorists gave them a few encouraging hoots and waves.

Patrollers protect and care for the community, attending to incidents like open gates during the night, trespassers on scenes, minor fires and minor medical emergencies, to name just a few. Patrollers are all registered by the South African Police Service, and act as additional eyes and ears, reporting suspicious activity and crime on the Community Policing Forum (CPF) radio network.

Dedicated patrollers give their time and effort for the safety of the community freely as no person in the blockwatch gets paid for any of their services. It is all done out of love for our Horison. Any resident in the Horison area can sign up as a member and people older than 18 can also sign up as patrollers,” said Zanoni Labuschagne, HBW Patrol Captain.

Any person looking for more information on the blockwatch, becoming a member, or joining as a patroller, may contact Zanoni on 082 669 9683 during office hours, or go to the HBW website https://www.horisonblockwatch.co.za.
