Vieira Road in a much-improved condition

The newly resurfaced road, which now complements the luxury apartments and cars that use it, was reconstructed between 18 and 19 March by JRA, according to the entity’s inspector Livingstone Ndleleni.

Residents of Vieira Road in Amarosa AH now do not have to panic when driving in and out of their residential complexes following the refurbishment of the worn-out route.

This strip, which is approximately 500m in length, had been a long-standing frustration for motorists due to its ruinous state, practically riddled with potholes.

The community, of whom many had suffered punctured tyres on this dilapidated route, were at their wits’ end as their complaints to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) had been in vain.

The newly resurfaced road, which now complements the luxury apartments and cars that use it, was reconstructed between 18 and 19 March by JRA, according to the entity’s inspector Livingstone Ndleleni, who also confirmed that JRA’s Road Resurfacing Depot (RSD) is now working around the clock to repair most roads across Roodepoort and the greater Johannesburg.

Although residents have heaved a sigh of relief for being able to walk and travel on this improved tar surface again without any fears, some felt the resurfacing of Vieira was long overdue.

“It’s so sad that we had to wait for such a long period. This road has been in a sorry state from time immemorial, and they would come and patch it up temporarily. The state of the road was so dire that many residents complained about the well-being of their vehicles and the devaluation of the surrounding residential area,” reflected a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

For this road to receive budget, Ward 97 councillor Leah Knott had put up a strong fight against JRA to get them to resurface the entire road, instead of filling up countless potholes, which would reappear after a couple of showers.

If you would like your road to be given the same attention as Vieira, Knott has advised residents strongly to partake in the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) submissions as this is the only method she can use to motivate budget for the ward.
