Hijacked truck recovered after midnight

Young said it was established that the horse and trailer had gone missing in Olifantsfontein in 2016.

The curiosity of BCI Security’s public relations officer, Quinton Young in the early hours of Saturday morning, 13 March resulted in the recovery of an abandoned truck in Muldersdrift.

Young was on his way home after midnight when he noticed the horse and trailer on the side of Beyers Naudé Drive near the R114.

The brave officer assessed the area and found no one around. He then contacted his Operational Manager, a reaction officer and a truck recovery expert for assistance.

Young said it was established that the horse and trailer had gone missing in Olifantsfontein in 2016.

“It was assumed that the horse and trailer might have been recovered and not cleared off the system,” he said.

To get a better perspective, the team contacted Muldersdrift Police whose members arrived in good time to assist and subsequently take over the scene.

He added that at about 1.30am, a Rentrak recovery team arrived along with members of the West Rand Flying Squad, who confirmed that the truck had been hijacked the day before (12 March) around Midrand, and the driver was dropped off in Isando.

“A jamming device had been used as they lost signal on the truck for the most part of the day, then received signal again in the area where
the BCI member recovered it,” Young explained.

He further explained that the police forensic team also arrived to take photos of the vehicle before it was booked in at Lenasia Police Station. “The manager of the logistics company based in Midrand arrived with a mechanic who hot-wired the truck and drove it to the Lenasia Police yard where further investigations will be conducted,” Young concluded.
