Security concerns force Garden Site closure

Pikitup spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi has confirmed the temporary closure of the Panorama Garden Site for management to address various security concerns.

This follows a multi-disciplinary raid held on the site on 22 February which aimed at sweeping out the displaced people living on the boundaries of the plant.

The raid was held with the intention to improve the safety and congestion caused by the people who regularly stand outside the site. However, the raid did not yield any better results as management resorted to closing it while they seek further interventions.

In the interim, residents have been advised to make use of two alternative sites that are closest to Panorama, which are Penny Road Garden Site (situated at Penny Road corner Nic Toomey Boulevard in Roodepoort West) and Fairlands Garden Site (situated on the corner of Smit and 5th Streets).

It was also communicated that resources working at Panorama will be deployed to the mentioned sites to deal with the additional garden waste.

“Pikitup apologises for any inconvenience caused at this time, and hopes residents will make use of the alternative sites,” said Mkhwanazi.
