Local security companies, police and Honeydew Victim Support were on the scene to assist and give support to those affected by the traumatic event.

Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan confirmed the incident and added that the matter was under investigation.

“There is video footage so we are hoping and praying that we can identify these suspects,” said Muthan.

According to the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF), it is important to remain vigilant at all times and pay attention to potential new methods criminals may use.

The CPF offered useful tips to follow to avoid being hijacked:

• Check the rear-view mirror to ensure that you are not being followed.

• Be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles or persons.

• When returning home after dark, ensure that there is an outside light on, or have someone meet you at the gate or door.

• When exiting your vehicle, be cautious and aware of surrounding obstructions and bushes that may conceal a hijacker.

• Never sit in your parked car without being fully conscious of your surroundings. Sleeping in a stationary vehicle is dangerous.

• Be vigilant when at a red traffic light; do not get distracted by checking your phone.
