Thieves caught with everything but the kitchen sink

The security enquired about the stove and taps but the suspects could not convince the officers and police were called.

Foolish thievery has no limits to what it may consider bounty, leaving no item safe from criminal hands.

Three men were arrested and charged with housebreaking, theft and possession of suspected stolen property on Tuesday, 23 February. At roughly 9.30am that morning a community member called ICE Community Policing, seeking assistance after the three men had robbed his home on Daniel Malan Avenue. Together with security companies, the resident followed the men to a street in Florida South were they were detained.

The men would have been easy to identify, as along with kitchen taps, copper piping and a gate motor, they were also carrying a large four-plate stovetop and oven combo. “Security officers spotted suspicious people on Rail Street pushing a trolley with the stove. They enquired about the stove and taps, but the suspects could not convince the officers and police were called,” confirmed Florida Police spokesperson, Sergeant Mpho More.

The suspects are aged between 26 and 40, and are alleged to have been identified by the CCTV footage of other neighbours breaking and entering other homes in the suburb. ICE, Help24 and Apcan Security are all thanked and credited for assisting police with the arrest. The three men are scheduled to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.
