Counting potholes in Wilgeheuwel

Kaestner also claimed that complaining about this matter to the relevant authorities falls on deaf ears.

Roads in Roodepoort continue to be a cause for concern as many routes remain in a deteriorating state.

Lately, a resident of Ward 97, Adolph Kaestner went out of his way to count and inspect potholes in a number of the frequently used routes in Wilgeheuwel.

Massive potholes in Ward 97.

“In a stretch of road 3km long from Taylor to Christian de Wet Road there are 66 potholes,” he claimed.

“At the upper end near Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital (on Paul Kruger Road), the road should be blocked off and traffic be diverted before someone is killed,” the resident highlighted the crisis.

Kaestner also claimed that complaining about this matter to the relevant authorities falls on deaf ears.

“Reporting this to JRA, got zero response, and to Ward 97 Councillor Leah Knot it is as good as whistling in the wind,” he criticised.

Knott has previously commented on the pothole disaster in the ward, saying that she had provided a list of roads to be prioritised for resurfacing to JRA, but without success.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency has once again been approached for comment concerning the pothole crisis in Roodepoort.
