ActionSA spreads love over Valentine’s weekend

“If we care about humanity, then as believers, we are challenged to show our caring and kindness, and in so doing, make this world a better place. Let's bring hope and love to this cruel and challenging world,” said John Moodey, ActionSA Regional Chairperson for Gauteng.

No matter where life takes you, you cannot forget where you come from.

ActionSA Gauteng Chairperson, John Moodey, demonstrated this sentiment on Saturday, 13 February, when he and a few other ActionSA members gathered outside of Sparrow Ministries in Florida. The Action SA teams have been conducting community outreach projects throughout Johannesburg over the past few months, and on this sunny Saturday, John and his team brought their charity efforts home.

As a Florida resident and a former Ward 70 councillor, John has said that the non-profit organisations and old-age homes will be seeing a lot more of him and his team. He has worked closely with Sparrow since its inception, so it was only natural that they would be one of the two beneficiaries of the recent donations the Roodepoort ActionSA team managed to collect. However, Sparrow wasn’t the only lucky beneficiary on the day – a representative from the Cradle of Hope in Krugersdorp was also invited to accept donations from the ActionSA team.

Cradle of Hope PR Facilitator, Dima Tomotomo, happily accepted the bags of food and clothing that ActionSA had collected, thanking them for all they have done with a huge smile on her face. The Sparrow Village team also received several bags of food and clothing.

The donations were collected from generous community and ActionSA members, and the local representatives of the party are always looking for more donations to drop off at the various charity organisations and old age homes they support. John urged all South Africans, especially his neighbours in Ward 70, to make an effort to become actively involved in their communities. He continued to say that there are many ways people can make a difference; just a small donation of old clothing can go a long way.

If you don’t have means to donate anything physically, John suggested visiting Sparrow Village, or one of the numerous rehabilitation centres in the ward just to show support and kindness. It is a small task, but it makes a world of difference in the lives of the less privileged, struggling and often forgotten members of the community. He said that another important and inexpensive way to show kindness is by visiting an old age home or retirement village (which Roodepoort has no shortage of) just to spend a small amount of time talking with the elderly residents who have no one else. This can bring so much joy into their lives. “If we care about humanity, then as believers, we are challenged to show our caring and kindness, and in so doing, make this world a better place. Let’s bring hope and love to this cruel and challenging world,” he concluded.
