Fidelity responds to questions on Hamberg CIT heist

Fidelity Services Group CEO, Wahl Bartman, has assisted in clearing up some information and providing an update on the Hamberg CIT heist and injured security guards.

When events occur that are as traumatic and violent as the cash-in-transit bombing in Hamberg on the evening of 16 February, the commotion can lead to information getting lost in translation.

Fidelity Services Group CEO, Wahl Bartmann, has responded to questions pertaining to the event, helping to clear up some of the information. While it was initially reported that two vans were involved, one of which managed to get away, the Fidelity CEO has confirmed that only one of their vehicles was involved.

Florida ICE Community Policing stated that the other van which was seen, was merely driving past but noticing the commotion, took a detour to avoid being targeted. Their detour however led them to a dead-end, but they were permitted to drive inside a complex until they could be escorted out by APCAN and the Florida Police.

Bartman further confirmed that the security officer who was shot in the head during the commotion is fortunately in a stable condition in hospital, while the other guard, who sustained minor injuries, is recovering at home.

The Fidelity CEO finished off his statement by saying that the company has an excellent working relationship with the police, and is aware that the syndicates perpetrating these kinds of crimes are highly skilled and organised. This is why Fidelity is constantly evolving their technology and changing their procedures to ensure the safety of their officers and stay one step ahead of the criminals who carry out the heists.

“We commend our crewmen on their bravery and quick thinking in this very dangerous and stressful situation,” Bartman concluded.

No arrests have been made as yet, but Fidelity and the police are urging anyone who may have information about this heist, or any others, to come forward. This can be done by calling Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or by sending a tip-off through the My SAPS app.
