Florida market to help those in need

The NPO uses the market to help those in need.

Not much can top the experience of browsing through the goods offered by various vendors at a flea market, except maybe for the knowledge that your shopping is making a difference in the life of someone less fortunate.

This is the case with the market hosted by Iba-Umngani, a non-profit organisation and foundation for abused and abandoned children.

Cynthia Armstrong from Iba-Umngani said the market’s main aim was to lend a hand to businesses struggling with the economic effects of Covid-19 and all it entailed. Their first market took place on 12 December and was a huge success, and now they wish to host this market on a regular basis.

In line with this wish, Cynthia confirmed that the market will be held on 20 and 27 February from 9am to 3pm at Hoërskool Florida, 64 Louis Botha Drive, Florida Park.

She said the flea market stalls will be under cover, and in addition to these stalls, there will be a car boot sale as well as a special offering for school learners. “The car boot sale is for people selling vintage, collectable and used products (not second hand clothing). School learners are also welcome to use this opportunity to raise money for their matric farewell,” she said.

Costs involved for this market are as follows:

• School learners – R150 (R250 if you book for both days)
• Car boot sale – R150 (R250 if you book both days)
• Undercover stalls for flea market – R300 (R500 if you book both days)
