Aladia’s Kitchen opens venue to local vendors
“The idea came about after I realised that I can offer an unutilised space in my restaurant to help others to promote their brands,” Aladia explained.
Local entrepreneur-turned restaurant owner Aladia Mahomed has proven to be a selfless and kind-hearted being after opening her business premises to budding vendors at zero cost to them.
On the first weekend of February people from across Roodepoort had the opportunity to promote their products and make a few bucks at Aladia’s Kitchen in Strubens Valley (behind Hirsh’s).
The big-hearted owner, whose restaurant menu is Indian-inspired, told the Northsider that she hosted the flea market with the sole purpose of helping other entrepreneurs during these tough economic times.
“The idea came about after I realised that I can offer an unutilised space in my restaurant to help others to promote their brands,” Aladia explained.
She added that the idea was also fuelled by her desire to offer assistance through her own initiative she calls the EachOneHelpOne campaign.
“It’s not about the money you have, but it’s having the passion to want to help other people,” the businesswoman explained.
The market featured stalls such as Genie in a Bottle, Tannie Meisie, Manala Studio, Spice Belle, Innovative Solutions SA, and Le Laine Designs by Elaine Botha from Florida who started her mask and crocheting business after losing her job due to Covid-19.
With the promising reception on both days, Aladia is considering the market to become a monthly event.
