Poor visibility blamed for collision in Witpootjie

What could be the fitting solution to curb the increasing number of accidents at the notorious General Pienaar Avenue and Ham Street intersection?

Reduced visibility due to the recent heavy downpours, slippery roads and possible major disruption of traffic flow due to flooded and damaged roads as well as difficult driving conditions once again has resulted in a collision at the General Pienaar Avenue and Ham Street intersection in Witpoortjie.

On Wednesday, 3 February, ER24 Emergency Medical Service responded to a collision between a Toyota Yaris and a Nissan Hardbody bakkie that left one person with minor injuries.

Motorists are advised to take caution on West Rand roads when visibility is reduced as accidents of this nature are becoming the norm.

The General Pienaar Avenue and Ham Street intersection has been the scene of many accidents, with the Record having appealed to Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and Ward 71 councillor, Rene Benjamin several times to have speed-reduction measures implemented.

The Record will send questions to JRA and councillor Benjamin, that hopefully will lead to the matter being resolved.

Public opinion in a democracy is highly susceptible to elite manipulation, therefore the Record requests the residents of Witpoortjie and those who use the intersection often to propose a solution to curb the increasing number of accidents at the notorious intersection.
