Sixteen people injured in minibus taxi collision on Snipe Street

Two seriously injured patients taken to hospital for further care

Suburban back roads can be a convenient shortcut for those in the know, but can be treacherous speedways for the presumptuous.

Shortly after 6.30am on the Tuesday morning commute, 19 January, a minibus taxi collided with a street pole on Snipe Street as it approached the Barnard Street intersection. The route is a popular shortcut for motorists avoiding the main arterials that surround the suburb.

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find several passengers gathered around the minibus taxi of which the front was badly damaged by the pole. “Medics assessed the patients and found that two people had sustained serious injuries while 14 others had sustained minor to moderate injuries,” confirmed ER24 Communications Officer, Russel Meiring.

The seriously injured patients were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Authorities attended the scene and the incident is under investigation.
