One man killed in Wednesday morning accident on N1

Six others were treated on scene for minor to serious injuries

One man has sadly lost his life when he was one of several people involved in an accident on the N1 highway this morning, 13 January.

Just before 9am, a light motor vehicle and a white bakkie collided as they headed south toward Soweto, just after the Albertina Sisulu Road offramp. First responders arrived on scene to find the bakkie perched on its roof, with a light delivery vehicle resting on the embankment.

The scene was littered with debris with multiple victims needing medical attention. “On closer inspection, medics found the body of a man lying on the embankment. Assessments showed that the man had already succumbed to his numerous injuries and he was declared dead,” stated ER24 Communications Officer, Russel Meiring.

One other man was in a critical condition and was provided with advanced life support interventions. Five other patients were treated for minor to serious injuries, with all being transported to nearby facilities for additional treatment. Authorities tended to the scene and further investigations are under way.
