Education is a powerful agent of change, and improves health and livelihoods, contributes to social stability and drives long-term economic growth.
IIE MSA student Lerato Matlanyane is a Bachelor of Social Science student majoring in Sociology and International Studies.
The 23-year-old has no parents. Her mother died in 2015 and her father is not present in her life; she has been depending financially on the money her mother has left for her.
However, according to Lerato, the money was not enough to help her complete her degree, and admits that she has saved some of the funds.
“I am really determined to get my degree and regardless of the financial difficulties, I managed to pass all my modules and obtain distinctions in some.
“Completing this degree will have a profound impact in my educational development and I will be the first-generation graduate in my family. It will really help me if generous community members can donate at least R70 to try and pay off most of the money I owe to IIE MSA,” said Lerato.
Lerato currently lives with her aunt who is a domestic worker and a single mother, and she tries to assist her where she can.
“I currently owe the school R69 176 in fees and I am really worried because I have just completed my second year and I am supposed to do my third year in 2021, which will be my final year,” explained Lerato.
Members of the public who are willing to assist Lerato can make a direct deposit into the IIE MSA bank account. Here are the details:
