Mechanical Engineering student halted by Covid-19

Education has been hit particularly hard by the Covid-19 pandemic with the country closing its schools and tertiary institutions.

A huge impact is still being felt by the country’s total enrolled learners while drop-out rates across the globe are likely to rise as a result of this massive disruption to education access.

Kellner Mashiyane is a third-year student studying towards a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering at IIE MSA, formally known as Monash University, based in Ruimsig.

Kellner’s academic record is impressive and a true reflection of determination and hard work, however he owes the University R87 198.17 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He has lost his scholarship due to Covid-19 and therefore if the account is not settled he will sadly not be able to continue his studies in 2021.

“My parents are unable to pay off the amount as my father is the sole provider for the family, and my mother has been unemployed for the past three years.

“I am humbling myself and asking the community of Roodepoort to please help me bridge this gap by contributing a minimum of R87.20 per person which will be paid directly into the University’s account, with the use of my student number as the reference,” said Kellner.
