Ovens fired up to spread Christmas joy

Earlier in the year, she teamed up with Rainbows and Smiles together with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) to host a blood drive at her school.

Twelve-year-old Dariana Naidoo managed to raise R10 000 through her fabulous Rainbows Festive Baking box initiative, ideal to keep little hands busy these holidays. It is also aimed at supporting kids.

The Weltevreden Park Primary School learner is a volunteer at Rainbows and Smiles, and Kids Supporting Kids, and is no stranger to community enrichment initiatives.

Earlier in the year, she teamed up with Rainbows and Smiles together with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) to host a blood drive at her school.

According to Dariana, each Festive Baking box yields close to 35 biscuits and costs R200 per box, and all the contributions will help feed a family this festive season.

Her accomplished target was to sell 50 boxes with the aim to donate R10 000 to Rainbows and Smiles as the year has been challenging to the most vulnerable.

According to Dariana, each box was assembled with so much love and enthusiasm by their Rainbows Elves, a number of their supporters did not hesitate to support and spread the Christmas joy.

“Dariana has been absolutely phenomenal in selling the Festive Baking boxes in her school and community to raise funds for Rainbows and Smiles.

“She raised an impressive amount of R10 000, and we are absolutely grateful for that,” said National Project Manager for Rainbows and Smiles, Nadia Lewis.

The Festive Baking box consisted of flour and spice mix, castor sugar, icing sugar, festive sprinkles, cookie cutter, instructions and also information about early childhood-cancer warning signs.

“Some members of the public bought the boxes and gifted them to their friends and families, so yes, it was really a successful little project as we sold about 170 boxes in a very short period of time,” concluded Nadia.

Members of the public who are still interested in getting their Festive Baking box have got till the end of the week to order a box and collect it in Randburg.
