Christmas spirit shared

“All the way from Krugersdorp, we packed 287 gifts for everyone at the block of flats – from young to the very old – to make their Christmas a little extra special,” she said.

Christmas usually comes with a lot of possibilities, especially to those who still believe in the concept of giving.

The stress of buying gifts this Christmas for some families was alleviated when a group of Good Samaritans took over that burden.

Jolandi Eksteen from the West Rand together with a group of friends touched lives when they dug really deep into their pockets to host a Christmas charity event in Claremont.

“All the way from Krugersdorp, we packed 287 gifts for everyone at the block of flats – from young to the very old – to make their Christmas a little extra special,” she said.

As a cherry on top, the group also provided 287 plates of curry and rice, and cupcakes to all the recipients on the day.

Prior to the presents handover, the children eagerly waited for Father Christmas, who was played by Donald Diamond, whose arrival was surreal and brought happiness to the children as he gave out sweets and hugs during his grand entrance.

With the resounding success of the event, Jolandi vowed that it will be an ongoing programme.

Her special thank you went to Annette Diamond, Erna and Willie van Wyk, and her daughters Lynese and Lené, who helped her put together this memorable event.
