WATCH: Buggies bring bags of love to the children

Following the charitable side of things, the group concluded the day with a braai and some fun activities in Krugersdorp.

A convoy of pimped buggies were the centre of attraction on the West Rand this past weekend when they embarked on a Christmas-driven charity run.

Hosted by members of the West Rand Beach Buggies, the Christmassy decorated ‘toys’, including some fresh vintage VW Beatles, cruised the streets not only to be noticed but to put big smiles on the children from Baby Moses Sanctuary in both Helderkruin and Krugersdorp.

The event coordinator, Johan Wolmarans, elaborated on the day’s concept. “We decided to merge our year-end function with our last charity run. The aim was to spoil the children a little bit by giving them a gift and taking them for a spin,” he said.

Each child received a wrapped cup with cash inside, and Johan said the purpose of that was for each kiddie to buy a present of their choice.

Lanie de Klerk from Baby Moses expressed her gratitude to the buggy collectors. “We are incredibly grateful for this. There is no way a charity can do this for the children. In many years I’ve been at Baby Moses I’ve never seen these children being spoilt like this, and this is the kind of support we need from the public,” she said.
