Nova Pioneer Ruimsig recently embarked on a Santa Shoebox charity initiative for children who are less fortunate.
The school partnered with the Lighthouse Baby Shelter based in Sundowner, which gave them a list of items they required and the ages of the children at the shelter.
The learners and parents were very excited to participate in this worthy initiative, and proved it by managing to fill over 40 shoeboxes with stationery, toys, sweets and clothing.
The school’s leader, Carla Hercules said, “At Nova Pioneer, we focus on providing a holistic education for our students that extends beyond the classroom. We strive to teach our students the values that will make them more socially responsible and to live out our Culture Principle of Servant Leadership.”
She added that she was extremely proud and thankful to the parents and learners for supporting the initiative in a time when many are experiencing financial constraints.
“It was a very special morning as our students handed over the shoeboxes to a very emotional and grateful Eleanor Dustan from the shelter,” she said.
