Witpoortjie Flea Market braves the rain

Residents from in and around Witpoortjie braved the cold and rainy weather on Saturday, 5 December to enjoy the variety of stalls on offer at a local market.

The Witpoortjie Community Flea Market and Farmer’s Market was a very popular weekend activity for residents in and around the area until issues with the venue meant it had to be put on hold.

After nearly a year of Roxanne Premchund, the main organiser, battling to secure a new space to host the weekly community market, a glimmer of light shone upon her market in March when she finally found a new venue, but then the lockdown hit.

Throughout the lockdown, Roxanne was eager to get the market back up and running, but when the regulations eased she found out that the venue that she had secured in March could no longer host the market. Just when things seemed hopeless, the dominee of the NG Kerk Culembeeck said the market could be hosted on the open piece of land next door to their church.

The weekly market will once again be open to the public and potential stall holders for a fun Saturday outing. On Saturday, 5 December, the stall holders and community members showed that not even the rainy weather could keep them from holding the market. From gorgeous hand-painted amulets to scrumptious food, the market had a stall to please all tastes.

The Witpoortjie Flea Market and Farmer’s Market will once again be held every Saturday from 8am to 1pm on the corner of Koeberg and Teenstra Streets in Witpoortjie, and is not to be missed. For more information or to book a stall, contact Roxanne on 084 207 6549.
