Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden aims for redemption with amazing Christmas displays

After a disappointing 2019 display, the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden has entered the 2020 festive season with a point to prove and their Christmas displays have not disappointed.

The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden (WSNBG) has entered the 2020 festive season with a point to prove.

Residents were left disappointed by the light displays in 2019 after a disastrous Christmas In July event and have been wary to return for the festive season lights this year.

However, it seems there is no need for residents to worry if the Wonderland of Lights will be worth their hard-earned money. WSNBG has appointed a completely new team to tackle the challenge of setting up the light displays. Event Ladies SA has worked exceedingly hard to make sure that the gardens, which are so beautiful during the day, are made just as spectacular at night by the display of Christmas lights.

From the moment you drive through the gates you are greeted with sparking lights and cheerful music, and when you enter the Garden you truly are entering a wonderland. There is ample space for families to sit and gaze at the stunning displays while singing along to their favourite Christmas Carols, and the imported Christmas decorations and colourful light displays illuminate the paths through the gardens and past the restaurant.

Thousands of colourful, shining lights create the perfect backdrops for Christmas photography and the light-up Christmas Character Lights such as the Grinch, Paw Patrol and the Nutcracker are bound to put a smile on anyone’s face, no matter what their age.

The Wonderland of Lights is 100 per cent family orientated, so no alcohol will be sold and unfortunately no cooler boxes will be allowed in either, but the market that has been set up will ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy, whether it be Christmas gifts, delicious food and drinks, or spectacular decorations. Strict Covid-19 protocols ensure that the entire family is safe while they enjoy the experience

Tickets can be purchased online or at the door, and the gates will open from 4pm until 10pm, but the light displays will only be running from 6pm. Online ticket holders will have a separate entrance and a limited number of tickets will be sold to ensure that Covid-19 regulations are followed.

Ticket prices are as follows:
• Adults: R80 per person
• Pensioners: R70 per person
• Children between six and 18: R50
• Children under six years old: Free
• Family of four: R220

Tickets can be purchased here. The light displays are the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit this year and will be up until Thursday, 24 December.
