Explosion at Nursery Substation causes loss of power to some areas

City Power technicians have been attending to a power outage caused by a trip at the Nursery Substation since the early hours of this morning, 1 December.

City Power technicians have been attending to a power outage caused by a trip at the Nursery Substation since the early hours of this morning, 1 December.

An explosion at approximately 2am caused severe damage to the substation equipment, but repair work has started and technicians are investigating the cause of the explosion.

The outage is affecting the following areas and their surrounds:
• Selwyn
• Discovery
• Florida
• Florida Hills
• Floracliffe
• Unisa

City Power has said that they do not have an estimated time of restoration (ETR) as yet, but they will be communicating any updates through their Twitter page: @CityPowerJhb. The Record will also post an update once an ETR is received.
