Dorljota stands against GBV

The Dorljota public relations officer, Itumeleng Chambata said that this year was no different for them despite the effects of Covid-19 limiting their outreach programmes.

The Dobsonville Roodepoort Leratong Joburg Taxi Association (Dorljota) has pledged its support to denounce the scourge of gender-based violence during 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign.

This is an international United Nations campaign that runs annually from 25 November (International Day of No Violence against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day).

The Dorljota public relations officer, Itumeleng Chambata said that this year was no different for them despite the effects of Covid-19 limiting their outreach programmes.

“Our message during this period is NO to GBV inclusive of children. We are also saying ‘NOT in our name as a taxi association structure’,” he said.
He added that as an association they vow to protect and continue transporting their loyal passengers with the utmost care.

In a situation where the operator acts irrational, Chambata said if reported to them, they have steps to deal with such a member.

“In our association, we have a disciplinary committee which handles such matters, but should the matter be above our shoulders in the sense that it is extreme, it is escalated to the police and we let the law take its course,” he explained, emphasising that they do not condone any form of violence against women and children because the industry needs them as they need the industry.
