Gone but never forgotten

The well-loved man also worked tirelessly, doing charity work through Rotary International, a society he was a member of for more than 30 years.

An unknown author once wrote that death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal.

A life that has been lived with love for those around you will never be forgotten, and that is certainly the case for Henry Peter Swanepoel, better known as Peter to his friends.

On 25 July, the popular community member passed away after living in Roodepoort for all 84 years of his life. Seven generations of his family called Roodepoort their home, and four of them still do, so community was a very important value for Peter.

Peter loved sports and keenly followed tennis, rugby and cricket, but he was also a talented sportsman, especially in tennis. He played his first league at both the Roodepoort Tennis Club and Florida Lake Tennis Club, later becoming Secretary and then Chairman of the latter.

The well-loved man also worked tirelessly, doing charity work through Rotary International, a society he was a member of for more than 30 years. During his time at the Rotary Club, he became Secretary and President, and won the highest Rotary honour, the Paul Harris award, on two occasions.

Peter lived his life to the fullest and his family helped him become the man he was. He and his wife Diedré were married for nearly 60 years and were the proud parents of five beautiful children, who gifted them eight grandchildren and one great grandchild before he passed.

The Swanepoel family cherished every moment they shared with Peter, and will miss him dearly.
