Capital project to brighten up the streets

Ward 126 councillor David Brand announced that Council has approved the new City Power capital projects, which are meant to be rolled out in a few weeks' time.

Major roads in Ward 126, 89 and 97 affected by malfunctioning street lights are set to be lit up and visible again.

Ward 126 councillor David Brand announced that Council has approved the new City Power capital projects, which are meant to be rolled out in a few weeks’ time.

“The budget was made available and the project has been out on tender,” he confirmed.

“This will see the installation of street lights on Jim Fouche Road from Landhuis Street to Beyers Naude Drive, as well as on Christiaan de Wet Road from Hendrik Potgieter Road to Beyers Naudé Drive,” Brand detailed the extent of this project.

Apart from getting a tick on the annual Integrated Development Plan (IDP), the councillor indicated that the project will be of huge benefit to the pedestrians and the fight against crime in the area. “The street lights will be very helpful to the pedestrians, especially those using Jim Fouche Road, which is quite steep and can be a hazard. Also, the lights will help with crime prevention because a well-lit up area is unlikely to be targeted – lights can deter criminals,” he explained.

In addition, Brand mentioned that road improvements are the next service on the cards for his ward.

This is a developing story.
