Officials continue to monitor Zandspruit protest

After illegal shacks were taken down in a section at Zandspruit, displaced residents allegedly started placing tyres on Marina Street, forcing traffic to a halt.

Motorists are advised to rather use alternative routes while Honeydew Police are on scene clearing the area as Beyers Naude Drive and Marina Street are congested.

The road has been reopened but the situation is reportedly very volatile, therefore motorists are advised to rather use alternative routes for the remainder of the day.

After illegal shacks were taken down in a section at Zandspruit, displaced residents allegedly started placing tyres on Marina Street, forcing traffic to a halt.

“The situation in Zandspruit is of a very sensitive nature. It is being monitored by members of the Honeydew Police, and as issues develop police are trying to stabilise these issues with the assistance of JMPD and other units that are involved,” said Honeydew spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan.
