Unrest in Zandspruit over demolition of illegal structures

Captain Kay Makhubela from the Gauteng Provincial Police confirmed that so far no arrest have been made.

After illegal shacks were taken down in a section of Zandspruit, displaced residents allegedly started placing tyres on Marina Drive, forcing motorists to use alternate routes for the remainder of the day.

“The operation to take down unauthorised shacks was carried out by the police together with JMPD and community leaders. The area is calm at the moment, but in the event of the situation getting out of hand, crowd control units will have to be called in,” said Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan.

This a developing story and more information will be made available as soon as an update is obtained from authorities.
