Update on the power outage affecting Witpoortjie, Lindhaven and surrounds

At approximately 6pm on 9 September, the power in the area went out.

Residents of Witpoortjie, Grobler Park and surrounding areas spent another night in the dark, and power has still not been restored.

At approximately 6pm on 9 September, the power in the area went out. Numerous calls were made to City Power and at 7pm, residents were notified that technicians had been dispatched to investigate the cause and work on restoring the power.

The source of the issue was identified as a problem on the feeder cable, which would not be a quick fix because the standby feeder cable is still out of order due to the South Road Bridge construction.

At 11.30pm on Wednesday, City Power updated residents, saying that technicians were on site and busy with restoration, and would attempt to have the issue resolved by last night, 9 September.

An 8am update by City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, this morning (10 September) stated that technicians began digging last night to access the cables, and that repairs would start soon. Unfortunately, no estimated time of repair (ETR) has been provided, but as soon as more details become available, an update will be published.

Residents in the area have turned to the ward councillor, René Benjamin, to release their frustrations, but are asked to keep in mind that the councillor can only do so much. René has pleaded with residents to be understanding, saying that she is hounding the power entity for more regular updates, but can only update residents once City Power updates her. René has promised that she is doing all she can within her position, and will do her best to give residents updates more often.

City Power has apologised for the inconvenience and encouraged residents to keep an eye on their Twitter page (@CityPowerJhb) for updates.
