Renico driver dies in hospital after two-truck head-on collision

Honeydew-based construction company Renico has confirmed the untimely death of their truck driver, Jan Ntepe, who was killed on Thursday, 3 September in a head-on collision involving two trucks on the N14 in Muldersdrift.

The construction company wrote on Facebook, “It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of one of our own in the Renico family,” Jan Ntepe.

“Jan was involved in a head-on collision, Thursday 3 September, while en route to Janho Quarry. A tyre burst of another truck travelling in the opposite direction, causing it to crash through the barrier and colliding head-on with Jan’s truck.”

In a statement, Netcare 911 said the fire department had to use hydraulic tools to free the driver of the tipper truck from the wreckage. After being stabilised and owing to the serious nature of his injuries, a Netcare 911 helicopter airlifted him to a hospital for further treatment.

The company indicated that he was airlifted to Netcare Milpark Hospital, but unfortunately passed on hours later due to the seriousness of his injuries.

The company also indicated that Jan had been part of the Renico family for the past 12 years.

“During this time, he drove the big Renico staff buss, did duty on our 20 ton trucks as well as our tipper trucks.”

Renico ended by conveying their condolences to Jan’s family, friends and colleagues.

“May all of us find strength and support during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
