Belly2Brain and Rhema West rolled out the red carpet for Women Against Women and Child Abuse (WAWA) on Saturday, 29 August.

The event marked a final celebration of the month dedicated to mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers and every role in between. Under the banner ‘Handbags for Hope’, 50 lucky WAWA members each received a handbag filled will dignity items such as female hygiene and daily healthcare products. All items, including the luxury handbags, were donated to the hosts as part of a mass collection campaign.

Enrique Bhana, WAWA Centre Manager beamed, “This has been a wonderful event. We hope this inspires our women.”

Belly2Brain is a public benefit organisation that aims to highlight the importance of a healthy diet and the vital role food plays in the optimum functioning of the brain.

“Our goal is to educate as well as feed the hungry. This Women’s Month we have also been placing an emphasis on gender-based violence and educating young boys on their responsibilities,” said Belly2Brain founder and Mrs Krugersdorp Curve 2020 finalist, Dominique Tibbles.

The special guests from the Toekomsrus non-profit organisation were among the first to experience the church’s new venue. After taking occupation in mid-February this year, the songs of worship have been limited to online sessions in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

“It has been a great privilege to be included today. It is a great opportunity to work together and let these ladies know that God is watching over them,” praised Rhema West Pastor, Gerda Clack.

“We aim to give hope to the hopeless,” said Enrique who is also appealing to corporates and the greater West Rand community to assist with any spare office equipment.

“We are opening additional centres in Munsieville, Muldersdrift and Krugersdorp, so any help with computers and equipment would be greatly appreciated,” he added.

Pastor Clack summed up the day’s collective sentiments, saying “God sees you, and we are his hands and feet”.
