‘Thankful he is alive and back with us’ – BCI boss

A bullet struck him in the shoulder while he was placing himself in harm’s way to help the vulnerable patrons on the scene.

BCI Security training instructor, Quinn Young, has been discharged from hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound.

An unarmed Young was hit during the Cradlestone Mall jewellery shop robbery shootout on Sunday, 16 August.

A bullet struck him in the shoulder while he was placing himself in harm’s way to help the vulnerable patrons on the scene.

Young spent a couple of days in ICU and underwent surgery to have bullet fragments removed that were lodged in his shoulder.

His boss, Corinda Loot, who hailed him as a hero for risking his life, confirmed to Northsider that he had been discharged.

“He came to his BCI family to say hello,” Corinda said.

It seems the passionate crime fighter attempted to use the visit to return to work.

“He wanted to return to work this week; unfortunately, he first has to be examined to see if he is fit to work,” Corinda explained.

“He needs to do a lot of physio to strengthen the muscle in his arm, which currently functions only at 40 per cent. Overall, we are so thankful and blessed that he is alive and back with us,” the BCI director concluded.
