Housebreaking suspect caught hiding behind bathroom door

The local CPF picked up the emergency message, and security companies were dispatched and quickly arrived at the scene.

On Wednesday, 19 August around 11.52pm, members of the Panorama Residents Association Emergency group relayed a message about a housebreaking on a property in Weltevreden Park.

It is alleged that a resident posted ‘SOS’ followed by the address of the property on the group to alert them of the incident.

The local CPF picked up the emergency message, and security companies were dispatched and quickly arrived at the scene.

“When I got to the house there were already two security companies on the scene busy clearing the back of the yard, and the owner showing them the point of entrance. We entered the outside room and checked it, but found nobody inside, but when we got to the bathroom we found one of the suspects hiding behind the bathroom door,” said Honeydew CPF PRO Michael Steyn.

The security officers subsequently arrested the man and later handed him over to the Honeydew Police.

“I am extremely proud of the success we had in catching the suspect. Currently we have 46 registered members on the patrollers group, and we are looking to expand the team to cover more areas and go out more often,” said Deputy Chairperson of the Honeydew CPF, Jon Rosenberg.

Honeydew CPF encourages residents to join their volunteer programme, which requires volunteers to work once a month on a Friday or Saturday night.

“It will be great to have more people on board. I think the more we’ve got the better we can serve a community and make things safe as well,” said Michael.

Members of the community interested in finding out more about the Honeydew CPF patrollers are advised to contact Jon on 082 450 2305.
