Free self-defence class to help women and children

According to Dynamic Health, the classes will be ongoing at the gym in Northriding and will be presented at a minimum cost, just to cover expenses.

Women and children of the West Rand and surround had an opportunity to learn some useful skills when Dynamic Health hosted their first self-defence class, led by Sithembiso Mathaba and sponsored by Ignite Energy on Sunday, 28 June.

Ignite Energy, Dynamic Health and Alpha Health Professionals joined hands to take a stand against violence and abuse against women and children in our country.

It proved to be an amazing, fun-filled, and educational day as women and children enjoyed free classes while following all health and safety protocols.

The day kicked off with an inspirational talk by TV/ radio personality Lee-Ann Sayster, and then the ladies learned some self-defence moves.

“Self-defence is about learning to protect yourself when you are in a dangerous situation; however, everything cannot be learned in one hour and numerous classes are needed to perfect this. Self-defence teaches women how to react in a dangerous situation; not engage in a drawn-out fight, but to do things to get you out of the dangerous situation as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Mbatha.

The ladies walked away with the basic knowledge of what to do when attacked, where the weak points are and some basic self-defence rules.

“Abuse and violence against women are profoundly serious issues in our country. Together we would like to make a difference in women’s lives by giving them the tools to defend themselves should they need to,” added Mbatha.
