Going Greek with Hirsch’s Kitchen Capers

Zoom guests may not have been able to taste the dish, but were left in no doubt of its unique crispness when it was sliced through

A popular event on the Hirsch’s calendar has been their Kitchen Capers that was held on a monthly basis in Hirsch’s stores since last year – before Covid-19.

With lockdown measures in place, the Hirsch’s PR team joined forces with some of the well-known restaurants and catering businesses around the country, many of which have battled during lockdown, to host fun and informative Zoom sessions with the chefs in these industries.

The first Hirsch’s Kitchen Capers Zoom event was held with Eat Greek, the well-known catering business based in Durban, with owner, Nick Papadopolous and chef Eric Edwards whipping up a deliciously crisp and flavoursome Spanakopita (spinach pie) and the quintessential Greek salad in the state-of-the-art Siemens kitchen at the Hirsch’s Umhlanga branch.

The next dish to be prepared during a virtual Kitchen Capers episode is moussaka (a Greek dish with eggplant).

They were helped, from a distance, by Hirsch’s PRO and cooking enthusiast, Lindsay Kleynhans.

Zoom guests may not have been able to taste the dish, but were left in no doubt of its unique crispness when it was sliced through.

Hirsch’s will be hosting these virtual cooking events every two weeks.

Due to popular demand, the Eat Greek team will be back (virtually) on Wednesday, 24 June between 11am and noon.

What will be on the menu? The popular Greek speciality, moussaka (a vegetarian and meat version) paired with the perfect wine, courtesy of Terrilyn from T-Inc Brand Catalysts.

Also on the menu will be a delectable Greek sweet treat – baklava and coffee!
