From breast-cancer screening to Covid-19 testing

“They have changed the model from breast-health services to Covid-19 testing during this time”

The vast demand for mobile Covid-19 testing has inspired the PinkDrive, a non-governmental organisation that promotes breast-cancer awareness, to change its business model to help government.

This organisation, which has a unique business model with mobile mammography units, recently switched its facilities to cater for Covid-19 screening.

Nelius du Preez, PinkDrive’s events manager said that earlier in April, the mobile units in Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal have started the outreach to assist with testing.

“They have changed the model from breast-health services to Covid-19 testing during this time,” he said.

He indicated that Gauteng would be next for roll-out.

“As mobile units are available with PinkDrive in Gauteng, they are just waiting with the roll-out until they know what areas in Gauteng will be allocated to PinkDrive in the next few days,” he confirmed.

Du Preez cited cost implications to run this project.

“As an NPO there are still costs involved to do the testing. PinkDrive thanks Corporate South Africa and individuals who have assisted in funding the first few days of testing.”

PinkDrive would like to ask everyone in South Africa while still at home and staying safe to open their hearts and make a donation to assist us in reaching out to fellow South Africans.

Even R50 or R100 can help with this testing,” he appealed.

He also cited the benefits of donating to them.

“Individuals can get a Section 18A certificate, and companies can get Section 18A certificates, and SED certificates for the BBEEE ratings as per SARS rulings,” he explained.
