Earth Centre receive grass bale donations

The horses provide equine therapy to many children at the centre and the wonderful donation from the Jammy family assists in maintaining that provision.

The EARTH Centre in Ruimsig received a much-needed donation of eragrostis bales after a call for feed donations for the horses was made by the team.

The horses provide equine therapy to many children at the centre, and the wonderful donation from the Jammy family is much appreciated.

Non-profit organisations (NPO) around the country are hard hit by the economic impact of the coronavirus, and like many other NGOs, the EARTH Centre’s regular fundraisers and funding have stopped due to locklown.

“Thank you to Elsie Jammy from Muldersdrift for the kind donation of lovely eragrostis bales, and thanks to Mike Henning and Shenan from Westfield Farms for collecting and delivering them to the centre.

“Please consider assisting the staff to carry these wonderful horses comfortably through this difficult period,” said Julia Morris from EARTH Centre.

With the suspension of all activities, EARTH Centre’s 19 very special equine therapists are enjoying an unexpected holiday.

Long-serving, live-in staff members, Lameck and Stanley continue to look after the ponies to ensure that all of them remain fit and healthy.

These special animals still need to be fed, however, and with the loss of revenue from income-generating programmes, the centre is asking for the community’s assistance to fund their monthly feed bill of just over R21 000.

Members of the public who would like to know how they can help the EARTH Centre in these difficult times are advised to contact Julia on 082 898 4440 or email at fundraising@earthcentre.org.za.

The EARTH Centre team is still operational, but working from home, and they can all be contacted via email or cell phone.

EARTH Centre instructors are in the process of putting together a six-part series lesson plan which will be filmed.

The link will be sent out to parents, and the schools that ride with EARTH Centre, with exercises and activities that the children can do at home.

“We hope and pray that you and your family remain healthy and safe, and we look forward to welcoming you to the EARTH Centre once this dreadful Covid-19 disease has been beaten. Until then, remember the EARTH Centre and keep healthy and smiling,” said Julia.
