The Community Liaison Officer for the South Road Bridge project, Mdu Myeza, has shared news that could be received with either frustration or understanding.
Mdu expressed his frustration and sadness at the fact that the project has been placed on hold during the lockdown. While it is a sad situation, he said that he understands that disaster regulations do not only affect him and his team, but the whole world.
“The issue of Covid-19 is a reality and the only way we can reduce this is to try and minimise its reaches by adhering to the measures put in place,” he said.

Mdu apologises for the inconvenience but is urging residents to understand that much like many others, the team is not allowed to work. Consequently, if the lockdown is extended beyond 21 days, it will affect the income of the Expanded Public Works Programme workers who desperately rely on their wages.
Due to the lockdown, the completion date for the bridge will be postponed by one month, making the new completion date May of this year.
