Two tavern owners arrested for operating past 6pm

Premises selling liquor were to close at 6pm, except on Sundays when they were required to close at 1pm.

Earlier during the Covid-19 pandemic, strict measures were implemented by the government. One of the first restrictions was that all establishments selling liquor were to stop trading at 6pm.

All on-consumption premises selling liquor were to close at 6pm – except on Sundays when they were required to close at 1pm – and would be allowed to re-open at 9am the following morning.

JMPD, in collaboration with the police, has been working hard to ensure that the restrictions are followed by all.

The Roodepoort Police spokesperson has been approached for comment on the matter, but by the time of the article going to print, none has been received, seeing that communication has been centralised to the local police stations for the time being.
