How businesses cope amid Covid-19 outbreak

Amidst the spread of the coronavirus and stricter operational conditions, some local businesses have started experiencing a decline in footfall.

With most revellers deciding to self-isolate during this period, government made it even tougher for businesses after limiting trading hours and the number of customers at a venue.

Police Minister, General Bheki Cele announced that taverns, bottle stores, restaurants and clubs are to make sure that alcohol isn’t sold after 6pm.

These adjustments have had a ripple effect, leaving businesses shaken. Local businesses shed light on their operations following the outbreak.

Barefoot Country Restaurant in Muldersdrift said their business has been very slow and it hurts their pockets. People are not coming in as usual. And what affects them the most is that they are a sit down for service restaurant and do not have any delivery services.

Gilroy’s Brewery also in Muldersdrift said due to the scarcity of sanitizers, they are making their own to ensure that their customers’ hands are sanitized. However, they also lamented the terrifying impact on business.

The Diner in Krugersdorp also admitted to experiencing difficulties due to self-isolation.

SO Cafe Rooftop Lounge in Honeydew said they cut down their operating hours since the news about Coronavirushad broken. They are now open from 10am to 6pm, and everyone’s hands are sanitized at the door when they enter and when they leave.
