Residents donate equipment to hard-working volunteers

The new signage for the Honeydew CPF patrollers and Victim Support Unit will make them a bit more identifiable on a scene.

Wednesday, 18 March saw the Welridge Residents Association (WRA) hand over six rechargeable lights and 20 sets of car magnet signs to the Honeydew CPF patrollers and Victim Support Unit.

The new equipment will assist during emergencies as the Head of the Honeydew CPF patrollers, Jon Rosenberg identified the issue of lighting as one of the biggest challenges they face in an emergency situation.

“The Residents Association decided to thank us for the work we do as patrollers and in some way contribute towards what is needed.

“At an accident scene where a car left the road and there were no lights, we realised we needed more lighting than our torches could give us,” said Jon.

The new lights are magnetic, movable, do not necessary need a stand and are rechargeable – they can be charged in the car cigarette lighter.

Jon recalls an incident were the Head of the CPF Victim Support Unit, Hanlee Fourie needed to enter a fatal accident scene after being called by the Fire Department, but unfortunately Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) did not know who she was and it was a challenge for her to be allowed to assist.

The work the Honeydew CPF patrollers and the Victim Support Unit do is made possible by loyal volunteers who use their own vehicles and fuel to make a difference in the community.
