Welties learner teams up with Rainbows and Smiles for blood drive

The organised blood drive will be held at the Weltevreden Park Primary School hall on 18 April from 10am till 3pm.

Weltevreden Park Primary School learner Dariana Naidoo will team up with Rainbows and Smiles, together with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) as she hosts a blood drive at her school.

The 12-year-old draws some inspiration from her older brother, Dashielle Naidoo who is the former head boy of the school and no stranger to community-enrichment initiatives.

Dariana gave a talk to her fellow learners in the presence of Rainbows and Smiles in the school hall during the Friday morning assembly.

The organised blood drive will be held at the Weltevreden Park Primary School hall on 18 April from 10am till 3pm.

“I want to encourage the community to come out in numbers to support this good initiative aimed at supporting kids with cancer,” said the Grade 6 learner.

Last year’s blood drive that was hosted by Dashielle saw a total of 60 bleeds from happy and willing community members who showed up in support of the blood drive and contributed to making a difference.

The event also raised funds through the sale of ribbons, caps and hats that went towards Rainbow and Smiles in support of children with cancer.

The main objective of Rainbows and Smiles is to provide emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child or children of that family is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness such as cancer.
