Family film fun at NG Culembeeck

A Friday night bazaar to shake off the shackles of the work week

The date was debated and eventually settled at 1976. This was the year that out of the garage of a dominee’s home, the NG Kerk Culumbeek was born. Several years later the annual bazaar was launched, becoming a mainstay in the Witpoortjie community ever since.

Friday, 28 February saw the church hold its 2020 edition with a buffet of food, drinks and desserts rounded off with a fun family film. Dominee Yolandi Kok was in jubilant mood as she mingled with the congregation that was eagerly sampling the baked good and treats provided by enthusiastic church folk. Highlights included the ever-popular boerewors rolls with the excellent chutney and onion relish, as well as homemade milk tarts which warmed the soul.

Adding a creative element was the evening’s best-dressed competition where Ghostbusters, Minions, Batman and Catwoman all made an appearance. Dressed in her best ‘Queen of Hearts’ outfit, Yolandi praised the congregation saying, “Thank you to everyone for making such a great effort. Family is important and everyone here is part of a larger family.”

Once the children had settled down with full stomachs and the adults had shared their week’s news, it was time for the feature presentation. A wholesome family comedy, Playing With Fire, starring World Wrestling Entertainment legend John Cena played in the church hall as the congregation fought back the urge to rest their eyes and dream of the weekend ahead.
