Lions Club reach food donations milestone

The milestone was made possible by an impressive number of generous shoppers at Pick n Pay, as their contributions resulted in three full trolleys in one hour and 40 minutes.

Saturday 29, February saw the Lions Club of Wilro Park achieving a new time record for their monthly food collection at Pick ‘n Pay The Falls in Little Falls.

The milestone was made possible by an impressive number of generous shoppers, as their contributions resulted in three full trolleys in one hour and 40 minutes.

The food donations will assist the Lions Club in their drive to support Lantern School feeding scheme and needy senior citizens.

The Lions Club of Wilro Park also supported the CANSA Shavathon at the same venue and encouraged the community to make a difference by supporting the initiative by shaving, spraying or donating to show some love for cancer survivors.

Members of the Lions Club are all volunteers who strive to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in the community.

“We have built a house through Habitat for Humanity, put in a borehole at a rural school, a playground at Lantern School, a sensory garden at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. We also do random acts of kindness by just handing out food parcels, blankets and a cup of soup to a needy person on a winter’s day,” said Lions Club Public Relations Officer, Sandy van Heerden.

Monthly general business meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month from 7pm to around 8:30pm at the Lions’ Community Centre, 16 Belladonna Street, Roodekrans.
