The mission to monitor Doreen Road daily

Trucks exceeding the five ton limit were stopped and slapped with fines for their ignorant behaviour.

With Doreen Road becoming a frequent accident zone due to reckless and negligent driving, there have been many appeals for the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) to monitor the infamous road.

However, due to other commitments JMPD personnel have, it will be unlikely to find the orange and white vehicles enforcing the rules of the road on Doreen every minute of the day.

JMPD Region C acting deputy commander, Wandile Mrubata, elaborated on the Doreen intervention. “Doreen Road has become a big problem, but our personnel cannot be there from 6am to 9am because they are dispatched to various traffic points, schools and accident scenes. However, from 9am until 4pm our vehicles will monitor the road,” he explained.

Putting his statement into action, JMPD spent a number of hours addressing the truck problem on Doreen on Tuesday, 3 March, hours after a taxi had collided with six vehicles and left 14 people injured.

The strong focus on trucks comes after two truck accidents, one of which destroyed more than 15 vehicles and injured many on 25 February.
