Bird causes wide spread power outage in wards 83 and 85

A bird flying into the power cables on Wilgerood Road has caused a widespread power outage in several areas.

At approximately 4.40pm this evening, Saturday, 29 February a loud bang was heard in the Helderkruin area, and shortly after, several areas in ward 83 and ward 85 surrounding Wilgerood Road were left without power.

According to City Power, the outage has been caused by a bird flying into the powerlines.

The power entity is investigating the problem, but unfortunately no Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) has been provided as yet as they need to determine exactly how much damage has been caused and the extent of the repairs.

City Power and the ward 83 and 85 councillors, Florence Roberts and Sonja Meyer, have promised to keep residents updated.

Once an ETR has been determined, an update will also be done by the Record.

Residents affected can also keep up to date with the situation by following the City Power Twitter page for updates: @City PowerJhb.
