Unplanned outage leaves Roodepoort in the dark

City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, stated that the substation has now been repaired and no permanent fault was found.

Wednesday night, 26 February was particularly dark for most Roodepoort residents when an unplanned power outage hit the area at about 7pm.

Shortly after the outage occurred, City Power issued a statement, confirming that they were experiencing an outage that was affecting several suburbs supplied by the Christian de Wet substation, Matumie Street substation and others.

Some of the areas being affected were Allen’s Nek, Honeydew, Little Falls, Struben’s Valley, Ruimsig, Weltevreden Park, Panorama, Constantia Kloof, Radiokop and Wilgeheuwel.

According to the statement, the substation tripped and the cause was not clear. A team was sent out last night to investigate the issue and to work on restoring the power.

Technicians were still working on repairs at the substation this morning. City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, meanwhile stated that the substation has now been repaired and no permanent fault was found. The cause of the outage was suspected to be overloading.
