A 13-year-old Lantern School learner, Kate Mpho Spies, was reported missing on Monday, 24 February after her father could not find her at school when he went to pick her up.
Kate was last seen at the school, and her whereabouts thereafter are unknown.
Captain Johan Pretorius from the Police’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit, explained that her disappearance is not believed to be a result of kidnapping, but that the reason for her disappearance seems to be of a personal nature.
She was last seen wearing a black shirt and had a glittery bag with her. A missing person’s case was opened at the Roodepoort Police Station.
Her parents are very concerned about her and are desperate to bring her back home. They are pleading with the community to help them find her.
